Do you eat the skin on figs?
Fresh figs are usually eaten raw. They taste best eaten straight off the tree, ideally still warm from the sun. The entire fig is edible, from the thin skin to the red or purplish flesh and the myriad tiny seeds, but they can be peeled if you wish. Always cut off the stem.
Combined with semi-sweet chocolate, cinnamon and cardamom, every sugar low bite of this fig tart recipe is amazing: pleasantly rich in taste, it makes beautiful finishing touch for any kind of gathering.
Delicate and perishable, most of the figs are usually dried naturally in the open air so salty winds give that special touch so these beauties could be enjoyed four seasons.
Great way to add some dry figs to festive desserts is to make Bustrengo , Italian festive cake.
To make this chocolate tart, I used three fresh, sliced Black Mission Figs but you can also use Kadota, Calimyrna, Brown Turkey, Adriatic variety or any other fresh ones available at your place.
Since fruits range in size, please take care about the quantity of figs necessary for this tart recipe. If smaller, like Adriatic ones, you might need few more than mentioned in my recipe below.
