Arancello from Scratch

Arancello from Scratch : Orange Liqueur, homemade. Arancello fatto in casa, ricetta della nona. Four ingredients only to have the best arancello made completely from scratch !

Ingredients

  • 4 oranges,
  • 2 ½ cups alcohol, 95 % or Vodka
  • 2 ½ cup water
  • 1 ½ cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry oranges.

  2. Peel oranges using potato peeler to use only orange zest without white layer that adds bitterness. You shuild get 120 grams : 4.3 oz : 0.265 lb.

  3. Place orange zest into clean glass jar, big enough to pour alcohol and cover.

  4. Let the jar stay aside for 21 days. Avoid direct sunlight and shake occasionally.

  5. On 21st day, pour alcohol through a metal sieve to catch orange zest. You will get beautiful orange coloured alcohol. Leave aside.

  6. In medium sized pot, on medium heat, stir water and sugar until sugar is dissolved. The mixture does not have to boil. Let it cool completely.

  7. Pour alcohol into the sugary water, stir and pour into glass bottles.

  8. Rest Arancello for 15 days before comsuming.

To enjoy the flavours intensively during summer heats, once Arancello is ready for consuming, place the bottle into the freezer and enjoy this beautiful digestif after lunch or dinner during hot summer days and nights.
