Ingredients

  • 2 store bought puff pastries ( 16 x 10 inches )
  • 1 small egg
  • 1 cup Mascarpone
  • 1 Tbsp orange zest
  • 1 ½ Tbsp white sugar
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 3 Tbsp semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Pinch of salt
  • 4 Tbsp unsalted butter to brush the twists before baking
  • Sugar pearls to garnish, optional
  • Orange zest to garnish before serving, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / 356 F.

  2. Cover two sheet pans with baking paper and leave aside.

  3. In a medium sized bowl, combine egg, Mascarpone, orange zest, sugar, vanilla extract, salt and chocolate chips. Leave aside.

  4. Lay first puff pastry on flat, clean working surface and spread half of Mascarpone mixture over the pastry.

  5. Cut the pastry lengthwise into 2 inches wide strips. You will get 5 strips out of each puff pastry

  6. Take each strip, fold in half lengthwise and gently twist each strip and make swirls by rolling the strips into coil. Some filling may squeeze out. That's OK.

  7. Repeat the steps 4 to 6 to have two sheet pans ready for baking.

  8. Brush each twist with butter and sprinkle with thermostabile sugar pears if desired.

  9. Bake for 13 minutes.

  10. Serve immediately with some orange zest sprinkled over the Danishes.
