  • 8 Tbsp sugar
  • 6 Tbsp melted butter
  • 2 eggs, separated
  • Pinch of salt
  • 4 Tbsp milk
  • 8 ½ Tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1 large apple, peeled, cored, sliced

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / 356 F.
  2. Grease rounded 7 inches baking dish.
  3. Whisk egg whites with pinch of salt in a medium sized bowl, until stiff peaks form.
  4. Slowly adding and combining with spatula, add sugar, butter, egg yolks, milk, flour, baking powder, vanilla extract and cocoa powder.
  5. Pour approximately 1/3 of batter into a dish and gently lay apple slices all over, cover with 1/3 of batter and lay the remaining apples again.

  6. Cover with remaining batter and bake for 26 minutes. Test if baked by inserting a skewer into the center. It should slide easily through the apples in the middle and come out clean.

  7. Cool. Sprinkle with cocoa powder before serving.
  8. Serve with whipping cream, if desired.
