Pandoro from Scratch has long shelf line due to double rising of fresh natural yeast and you can literary keep it on room temperature for months.

However, pandoro filled with flavoured chocolate or vanilla cream have shorter shelf life if you buy one, check the details on the label.

Since this Italian famous Christmas bread is usually served from Novemver to early January ( Epiphany on 6th of January ) one single cake dissapears in a flash.

Epiphany is the last day of holidays for us and typical Italian saying, wherever you may be is „ tutte le feste si porta via „ ( Epiphany carries away all the holidays).

 

There is one simple french toast recipe, served for breakfast and we simply named it Pandoro French Toast.

It is budget friendly, simple yet festive breakfast or brunch. To enrich the flavours, you may spread maple syrup over the slices or add a table spoon of Blackberry Jam and Mascarpone.

Some families prefer breakfast bake using the same ingredients. The final result is quite similar: delicious creamy spongy breakfast loaded with sweet bread, jam and cream cheese.

We cook everyting using olive oil or lard. This Pandoro French Toast is an exception since olive oil is of intense flavours and may easily overpower subtle vanilla and butter sweet bread taste.

The best, in this case, is to use a bit of unsalted butter just to lightly cover the pan so slices of Pandoro French Toast become enriched with a bit more butter and turn to lightly brown color.

Pandoro French Toast

Ingredients

  • 2 slices Pandoro cake
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup milk

Instructions

  1. Beat egg and milk in shallow dish using fork.

  2. Slice Pandoro bread vertically to get 2 pandoro slices 2/3 inch thick.

  3. Heat up your skillet on medium heat and add a teaspoon of butter.

  4. Dip slices of Pandoro in egg mixture, turning to coat both sides.

  5. Cook bread slices in a pan, until lightly brown on both sides. It should take 3 – 4 minutes.

  6. Serve immediately with your favourite jam, Mascarpone, fruits or maple syrup.
