I did not grow up eating food from boxes. This was not an option for my mother and grandmother either. That is why, I guess, I enjoy rice krispies today but am careful with the quantities. It comes to an occasional snack or no bake dessert.

This batch of rice krispie squares and chocolate is our twist on classic version! Milky chocolate way. Quickly done. So easy to combine.

What is the right way to make rice krispies treats with big marshmallows?

The key to making great recipe is to melt marshmallows until just about melted and then take it off the heat and let the residual heat melt the rest completely. Grease or water the spatula or hands with some butter or oil or water because this will prevent it from sticking to the cereal mixture when you are patting it down.

Also, make sure to have a bowl that fits the pan completely so the steam released from water rises to the bowl’s bottom directly when tempering chocolate.

How do you keep Rice Krispie Treats from falling apart?

Not using enough marshmallows yields boring treats that may fall apart easily. Follow this tip: use a minimum of 1 1/2 cups of marshmallows (that’s a little more than a standard size bag of large marshmallows). But don’t be afraid to use more! I used 4 cups to have crisply, crunchy, and gooey rice krispies bars.

Are marshmallows vegan?

No, most store-bought marshmallows contain gelatin, which gives them that ooey-gooey consistency. Unfortunately, since it’s derived from animal protein, vegans (and vegetarians) should avoid it.

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp butter + butter for the dish
  • 1 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 4 cups marshmallows
  • 3 cups chocolate rice krispies

Instructions

  1. Cover 7 x 7 inches baking dish ( 6 cups volume) with wax paper and butter the paper well.

  2. Take a large pot, pour the water, and heat it.

  3. Cover the pot with fitting bowl and put butter, chocolate chips and marshmallows into it.

  4. Stirring constantly, melt the ingredients over low heat to get sticky mixture, almost completely melted.

  5. Add chocolate rice krispies to the mixture and stir intensively. That way, your marshmallows melt completely together with krispies.

  6. Pour the mixture into the pan, press, and flatten it with oiled hands or spatula.

  7. Cool for one hour at least, cut and serve.
